"Chinese Red" Lights Up in Dubai Again Celebrating 71st Anniversary of Founding PRC

Recently, people from various walks of life in Dubai have celebrated the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The celebration took many forms and saw a number of highlights. The colour red that symbolises China once again swept Dubai, adding a charming view testifying to the friendship between China and the UAE during the pandemic.

Online National Day Reception Saw Highlights

Due to the pandemic, the Consulate General of China in Dubai held this year's National Day reception online. The reception started with primary school students at Chinese School Dubai singing the national anthems of China and the UAE. Consul General Li Xuhang then delivered a heart-warming speech praising China-UAE friendship. China 2020, a documentary produced by the Publicity Department of the CPC was played to show China's achievements in fighting the pandemic and alleviating poverty. The Consulate General produced specially for the occasion a short film focused on China-UAE cooperation in fighting the pandemic, applauding the powerful friendship and sincere cooperation between the two countries. At the end, all participants raised thumbs, did the three-finger salute and the fist-and-palm salute, gestures that carried praises of and best wishes to China-UAE friendship, along with the participants' determination to weather the difficult time together and obtain victory. More than 200 people attended the online reception, including Sheikh Maktoum bin Butti Al Maktoum, Director of the Dubai office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Hala China, His Highness Juma, and other representatives from all walks of life, including the royal family, government, industry, commerce, science, education and culture. Also present were Consul Generals of various countries in Dubai, overseas Chinese, Chinese international students, Chinese companies and representatives of Chinese and foreign media. The reception was widely reported by mainstream media and Chinese media in Dubai. It is covered by the Xinwen Lianbo TV programme in China, and the Spokesperson official Twitter account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs retweeted relevant reports.

The Ruler of Dubai Sent Warm Wishes

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, sent a congratulatory tweet in Chinese on October 1st: "On the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the people of the #UAE extend their warmest wishes to the Chinese people. Our long, historic relationship with China is of strategic significance & we hope it will achieve further advancement." The tweet was accompanied by an elaborate video of UAE children singing the national anthem of the PRC in Chinese, receiving warm response. It had nearly 100,000 views, more than 1,000 retweets, 200 replies and 3,000 likes. The Dubai Media Office quickly tweeted the English version of the original tweet and various Dubai media covered on it.

Dubai mainstream newspapers highly praised China-UAE relations

On October 1st, Dubai's official Arabic language newspaper Al-Bayan carried out a special report of multiple pages in celebration of the 71st National Day of the PRC. In the core section of the front page, Al-Bayan published a poster that reads "Warmly Celebrating the 71st Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China." The celebration was covered by three full pages of the 12th, 13th and 14th pages with multiple articles including "40 Years of Relations between China and UAE", "Vision of Win-win Development and International Cooperation between China and UAE", "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: Celebrating the 71st Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China" and a signed article by Chinese Ambassador to the UAE Ni Jian, "China-UAE Relations at a New Starting Point with New Opportunities". On October 2, Al-Bayan published the full text of a signed article by Chinese Consul General in Dubai Li Xuhang, "A Golden Era of China-UAE Relations". Al-Bayan also released on its official website a video titled "Close China-UAE Relations", celebrating China's National Day and sending best wishes to the relations between the two countries.

The Celebration Attracted Mainstream English Media

Gulf News and Khaleej Times, the two largest English newspapers by circulation in the UAE, reported on the online National Day reception held by the Consulate General in Dubai. Gulf News published an article titled "UAE and China Have Turned Pandemic Crisis into Opportunities", reporting in depth Consul General Li Xuhang's speech at the online National Day reception from four aspects: strong support, win-win cooperation, moving forward and stronger UAE and China relations. The article also praised China and the UAE's fight against the pandemic and their contribution to the world. Gulf News reported His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's prompt tweet congratulating China on its National Day and recommended the video of UAE children singing the Chinese national anthem. Khaleej Times published the article " China National Day 2020: Expats feel at home in the UAE". By interviewing several overseas Chinese about their feelings celebrating the National Day in the UAE, the article praised China-UAE relations from different perspectives. It suggests that the joint fight against the pandemic has further deepened China-UAE friendship and their mutually beneficial cooperation, at the same time demonstrating the international responsibility they have shouldered. The the two countries have become closer.

Chinese Flag Lights up on World's Tallest Building

On October 1st, Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, celebrated the 71st anniversary of the founding of the PRC in the form of a light show that displayed the Chinese national flag. Landmarks such as the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company Building in the capital of the UAE also lit up and displayed the Chinese national flag to celebrate China's National Day.

The warm celebration of the 71st anniversary of the founding of the PRC by people from all walks of life in Dubai showed the profound historical friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. Furthermore, it reflects that in time of the global pandemic, people in the UAE hold great respect for the Chinese people's heroic fight against the pandemic and the victory that followed. They have affirmed the strong mutual support and cooperation between China and the UAE in time of distress, and highly appreciated China's role as a responsible country in international anti-pandemic cooperation.
