Consulate General Holds Special Lecture on Civil Code for Chinese Companies in Dubai

On August 6, the Consulate General in Dubai and the Chinese Business Council in the UAE jointly organized an online special lecture on the Civil Code of the People’s Republic of China. Experts of law from China explained part of the tort liability law of the Civil Code for Chinese companies in the consular district. Consul General Li Xuhang and other leaders of the Consulate General attended the lecture. The audience also included about 170 representatives from 21 Chinese Companies in the UAE such as PetroChina, Bank of China, Huawei, and ZTE.

The purpose of this special lecture held by the Consulate General was to guide enterprises to understand the significance of the first Civil Code in China and respect the rule of law. The Civil Code is dubbed "an encyclopaedia on social life". It not only reflects Chinese characteristics, but also draws on the practical results of international civil law. It is of great significance for enterprises who are the main force of a market economy to learn and use the Civil Code well and respect the rule of law. At the same time, it also creates conditions and provides assistance for the resumption of work and production of Chinese enterprises in our consular district.

Yang Lixin, a professor at the School of Law of Renmin University of China and Vice Chairman of Civil Law Institute of China Law Society, gave a detailed interpretation of the background, significance and related content of the tort liability law of the Civil Code, and answered questions from the audience. Representatives of enterprises said that the timely lecture was exactly right for them to understand the Civil Code. They also expressed that the Consulate General actively solves problems for companies in the pandemic, which strengthens their confidence in resuming work and production and overcoming difficulties.
