Consulate General and Overseas Chinese in Dubai Participate in Donation in Ramadan

On May 15 and 16, in response to the ‘10 million meals’ campaign initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Consulate General and overseas Chinese organizations in Dubai such as the UAE Overseas Chinese Union jointly donated 10,000 Iftar meals to the Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai. 3,000 meals were from the Consulate General and the other 7,000 were raised by the Overseas Chinese Union from overseas Chinese people. So far, the above-mentioned Iftar meals have been distributed to local workers in accordance with the arrangements of the CDA.

Holding charity activities during the holy month of Ramadan is one of the important traditions of the UAE. The Consulate General of China in Dubai have always actively participated in this charity through distributing Ramadan meals, organizing gatherings of overseas Chinese Muslims and other activities. Due to the COVID-19 this year, almost all Islamic charity activities in Ramadan in Dubai have been suspended, and the lives of low-income groups such as foreign workers have been greatly affected. For respect of the local tradition, the Consulate General decided to directly contribute financially to the campaign and encouraged organizations of overseas Chinese to raise fund for it. Together with eager overseas Chinese in Dubai, the Consulate General of China have donated more than three times of the Iftar meals than in previous years, which was highly praised by the departments such as the CDA.
